Background
My
Originally trained as a graphic designer and had a successful interior design business in London, South Korean born Saemi Kim now creates art and runs art workshops to share her passion for art.

Living in London means that you never run out of inspiration, but you always run out of time to do things. She missed drawing and painting while leading a busy life in London. Moving to Doha with her husband gave her space in her mind to start drawing and painting again.

Working in watercolour, ink, and pencils, Saemi draws her inspiration from the nature and architecture of different cities.

Saemi currently lives and works in a studio a stone's throw away from a beautiful sandy beach in Doha. With views of the beach from her studio, it is her haven and sanctuary where Saemi spends much of her time creating and inspiring younger artists.
“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.”
–Henry Ward Beecher
I am a contemporary artist and designer who loves to explore the beauty of the natural world and paints from the heart and the soul. Having been a lover of art from childhood, my chosen medium is painting with watercolours.

Painting with watercolours is an art form that requires collaboration with the nature of the subject that you are focused on painting.

A trial of patience and understanding, co-creation with the natural world which challenges me to take a gentler approach to my painting, pushing colours gently and willingly accepting their limitations so that I may achieve a lovelier balance.

I try not to impose too much on what the water does naturally; instead, my hope is that the painting comes from both the outside world of nature and from my observations of landscapes here where I live or far-flung exotic locations where I spent some time as a visiting artist.
